To deliver culturally responsive and effective healthcare, Wellness Wheel does not limit its practice to medical clinical visits but rather engages in a health and wellness model that includes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. As such, funding must be distributed to maintain high-quality healthcare that comprehensively addresses the needs of our patient base. To sustain this mission, Wellness Wheel collaborates with public and private community and strategic partners whose core belief that “all persons should receive high-quality total health care regardless of social status, cultural beliefs or physical location” aligns with that of the Wellness Wheel.
Not all costs relating to healthcare are covered through provincial or federal funding. Typically, the physicians are compensated, on a fee-for-service basis, by the Provincial Health System; however, provincial and federal funding is not always available for the medical support personnel, medical and personal protective equipment required to provide clinic services, and for outreach clinic travel expenses. Furthermore, there are jurisdictional challenges in determining who is ultimately responsible for the overall health and wellness of individuals who reside in their home, on-reserve communities. To address these types of expenses, Wellness Wheel is always seeking funding to be able to continue providing sustainable healthcare to our current patient base; as well as to expand both our patient base and the services available.
